Hello, from the team at Dementia Carers Count.

We have put together a number of free links, tips and advice to support you and your team as you take on caring for someone living with dementia.

Dementia Carers Count (DCC) provides CPD accredited dementia training for carers, and free support services for dementia carer wellbeing. DCC is proud to be chosen as a charity partner by Birdie this year, who are helping us support professional and family dementia carers with counselling, a support phone line, carer support groups, and online help and information.

We’re committed to equipping and empowering carers through the daily practical and emotional challenges dementia can bring. Over the last three years, we have listened to carers working with dementia clients. Here’s what they are telling us:

• Two thirds of dementia carers are not getting the support they need
• There is no guaranteed dementia training within the social care sector and it varies from job to job
• They want advice on ways to communicate with relatives and family carers
• Care providers want to support families through difficult transitions that come with dementia, but often don’t have the framework necessary to do so
• Every person living with dementia is different and requires different approaches to their care, which can feel overwhelming
• Some of the symptoms of dementia, including distress and sundowning, can be challenging to manage without the right training
